About The Artwork

Why do I remind myself of the dolphin hunt now? Out of the blue we came across so many dolphins. We stuffed the hold. The water was reaching the board, the ship was filled to the brim. And we wanted to take all of it. Then we pulled the nets, Full of dolphins, And we went back, slowly. We were returning with wealth. The wind was good. Тhe mast with us played, cheerfully and we saw nothing, besides cities, who look at us with the eyes of humble women. Then came the storm unexpectedly. The ship stopped. The large nets weighted like burden. The rich catch pulled us back. We dreaded, that we will reach the shore no more. - Cut the ropes! Somebody finally shouted. He was right. But we hated this man. Аxes be raised. We cut off the nets. It hurt a lot. We were cutting and weeping wildly, Right before us the coast was rising slowly, deserted and drenched in light. Why do I remind myself of the dolphin hunt now? A poem by Veselin Hanchev Veselin Hanchev is a member of Bulgarian classic authors. The verse is from around 1950s, when fishing of dolphins was not yet officially banned, being also a profitable business and it represents the author's feelings towards this kind of activity. These verses are connected to the more obvious - "ecological" aspect of the painting - the ruthless attitude of humankind to nature. But also the power of transformation of a near-death experience to release bad habits - greed in this particular case. Another reading - on a closer look - one may observe that the setting of the net around the mammals is too tight which is not very natural and realistic. Symbolically the sea represents awareness, the dolphins represent intelligence, but also there are two of them, forming a sort of an in/yang dance, symbolizing duality in nature - they are actually inseparable eternal twins. Duality is also supported by the two main colors of the ackground. The net represents connectivity, which is aimed at infinity (it goes beyond the upper part of the painting) - an universal "up-link" of the consciousness, connecting it with the whole.

I was born in the outskirts of the Bulgarian mountains and I had a careless and happy childhood and frequently wandered through the meadows and forests outside of my hometown. During my free time I was also engaged in knitting, weaving and making embroideries, but my true artistic journey begun some years ago. I was searching for an enthusiastic occupation - I graduated a computer science master’s degree - fulfilling a dream I was unable to, in my younger years. Still that achievement did not satisfy me, nor working in an office looked as promising as before. In May 2018, after dreaming that I had to listen to my inner voice, I began painting. At first, I sought for some formal education, to help me evolve faster, but soon I found out that any interference, even the smallest one changed the direction of my emotional flow, when laying out the paints and sometimes made me feel at loss. Having that mind, I finally gave it up and allowed the emotions to lead my hand, during painting. When I paint, I usually enter a specific, altered state of mind - it happens often that I don't remember how exactly I did some of my works and I cannot repeat them. I love mysteries and hidden meanings... I look for the diverse, the extraordinary and transfer that passion within my works. Each of them contains a part of my worldview and there are always messages, even if they are not deliberately sought by me. Sometimes they are just words embedded in a little chaos and sometimes they are intertwined among the thoughts and emotions that I wish to convey. When I'm in special mood, I love to create paintings which help people deal with certain emotions, fears or complex life situations. Once completed, the paintings begin to have a live on their own. They speak, cure and soothe, when they resonate with the person observing them. Through the picture, I set a base template, and the full presentation is completed within the viewer's soul. Also, communing with the same painting, each and every one creates a slightly different story. Those stories enrich me too - they are often unique and may be completely different from what was originally laid out. Life is a mystery.
