Donna Dei Pini (Pinetree Woman) My fifth painting in the series 'Demoiselles Mondiale' is the ‘Donna Dei Pini'. The series shows strong women, painted on large, loose canvases, inspired by my travels, encounters, art that touches me and my own feminine strength. This painting is about my memories of Italy (where I stayed so often when I was younger), where I sought a cooling shade under the pine trees when the sun at noon was so booming hot. We also had a lot of family picnics in the pinetree woods near the Mediterranean with pasta and fresh fruits and I could peer for hours over the endlessly calm sea of summer during the siësta. This painting is a synthesis between my former paintings about Italian trees and femininity. It is also about quietness. I painted this canvas very patiently and thoughtfully but in a relative short time. The ‘Donna Dei Pini’ is painted in carefully selected and delicate colors and playful lines and planes. The lady seems to rise from the calm Mediterranean as a kind of fertile, strong and confident woman who is also playfully painted in a rhythmic plan that divides the space into facets. The painting is made on a loose hanging canvas; a very high-quality, professional linen, from Artel, with a high number of yarns per centimeter. The high weight and regular structure makes the canvas perfect for a painting of this dimension. It has the quality mark "Master of linen", a hallmark worn by the leading linen weaving mills in Western Europe.
