Double Cross oil on canvas 92 x 61cm Painting

UK based. Studied Fine Art (BA level) early 90's, moved into gag illustration working for UK/US magazines, returned to painting getting studio space in 2022. The aim was to pursue my interest in layers, abstraction, and creating unique pieces, not a production line 'brand'. Where possible I like to place a colour that doesn't repeat in the work, sometimes I have to balance this by adding it as part of a thin frame. The 'frame' also stops the piece looking like it's part of something else, I want each painting to be contained, what you see is 'it'. I'm quite traditional in that I'm not a fan of drips and splashes, I'm quite measured and reflective on what ends up on the canvas. My influences are early French modernists, Nabis (especially Vuillard) and the usual greats, Cezanne, Matisse, Degas. I also love Gainsborough, and the old greats, Titian, Velasquez, Rembrandt. I also have to give a shout out to Francis Davison.
