About The Artwork

This large abstract painting really catches the eye! It is just the right scale for the space over a large-screen TV. Aspermont, Texas, is where the inspiration for this impressionist art wall decor is found. The Texas mansion was a farmhouse on a grand estate until the little Texas town grew, and its outskirts reached the house. It peaked my imagination. What caused this mansion to be abandoned? I could almost hear the laughter, smell the smells, and imagine the sights of a gay time when the house was home to a happy family. Liquitex Heavy Body Acrylics were used. The painting is finished with Liquitex Gloss Medium and Varnish. It is signed. A hanging wire is attached. The edges are painted blue-black. Certificate of Authenticity is provided. The painting is from "I Love My Texas Series" by J. S. Ellington I LOVE MY TEXAS SERIES: I loved growing up in Texas but thought you had to travel elsewhere to enjoy nature's beauty. My full-time painting passion has made me notice the gorgeous simplicity in Texas. What do I love about it? The artfully tortuous mesquites, the graceful cattle, the colorful birds, the electric blooms of the cactus, an occasional reminder of times past when I see an old abandoned mansion, wooden barn, fence post, or gate with their sun bleached planks, our towering windmills, and I could go on. I am so grateful to be awake to my gorgeous Texas, and I hope that gratitude is expressed in my paintings.

I am a Texas artist and have painted for most of my 71 years, being from a family of artists. My mother's youngest sister, aunt Patsy, spent a lot of time with me, guiding and encouraging me, and I credit her for my passion for art. She painted under the name of "von." When she died in August of 2018, I began placing "von" somewhere on the face of each painting as an acknowledgment of her role in my artistic endeavors. My inspirations come from my home environment in Texas. Things that I have taken for granted all my life are now frequent subjects for art. Mesquites, cactus, old barns and shacks, windmills, wooden fence posts, wildflowers and the like are favorite subjects. I am a colorist, and I enjoy using color to give new life to otherwise fading beauty. In addition to color, I strive for dimension, movement, depth and unusual perspective.
