Drinking wine Painting

Emese Kudász is considered to be the hungarian master of the watercolor technique, often recreating personal memories in dreamlike, delicate and airy paintings. This work shows a mixed group of people wandering through the night on a New Year's Eve. They drink wine and are engulfed in celebration. Turning away from the happy scene, a female figure sits in the foreground with an outward gaze, holding on to a glass while while she is offered a bowl of rice, a symbol of good fortune. Her purple blanket and turban contrasts the shivering paleness of her face. The painting is signed on the front side, unmounted and without frame.
