About The Artwork
The crucifixion by Antonello da Messina (preserved in Antwerp) is represented here in a modern urban landscape (in Antonello's painting the crucifixion has the city of Messina as its background). Here Jesus gives his life in a degraded suburb of the suburbs, close to the least of society. The halo passed from Jesus to the child who was born there, lives and plays. The picture is painted on a 100x100 cm on plywood board with powder pigments in Fat Tempera with poppy oil and Chios mastic resin.
