This is a painting I made to show what it feels like to be dyslexic. I have suffered from dyslexia all my life, and I wanted to express that frustration.

Eva Kendrick is a contemporary visual artist whose work explores preservation, historical memory, and the body as relic. Drawing influence from funerary traditions, Revolutionary-era imagery, and devotional iconography, her paintings combine distressed surfaces, layered textures, and gold beneath oil glazes to create works that feel unearthed rather than painted. Her ongoing mummy series examines the tension between mortality and endurance — treating history not as something distant, but as something carried physically through time. Through expressive figures suspended between decay and reverence, the work blurs the line between artifact, portrait, and memorial. Kendrick’s practice is deeply informed by ancient burial traditions, symbolic storytelling, and the emotional residue left behind by history.
