About The Artwork

Hilaire Germain Edgar de Gas, known as Edgar Degas, born on July 19, 1834 in Paris and died on September 27, 1917 in the same city, is a French painter, engraver, sculptor, photographer, naturalist and impressionist. Although Degas was a founding member of the group of impressionists, his work is so varied in its themes and practice that it does not match them in their best known features. His exceptional situation did not escape the critics of the time, often destabilized by his avant-gardism, which is still today the subject of much debate among art historians. Edgar Degas was an aristocrat, son of Auguste de Gas, a banker, and CĂ©lestine Musson, an American Creole from New Orleans. His maternal grandfather, Germain Musson, of French origin, was born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, and settled in New Orleans in 1810. From 1874 to 1886, Degas entrusted works to Impressionist exhibitions (he participated in seven out of eight of them) and took a very active part in their organization. He then had many contacts with painters of his generation, notably Camille Pissarro, but also with younger avant-garde artists. In the 1880s, as his eyesight began to decline, Degas favored pastel, which he sometimes mixed with watercolor and gouache. In 1881, he presented the statue of The Little Dancer of fourteen years at the sixth exhibition of the Impressionists; the sculpture created a scandal in the press...

I am a passionate Dutch portraitist who lives and works in France (Blois). I paint personalities and people who touch me, inspired by their talent and vision of life. My paintings are a tribute to these artists of all kinds, authentic, pure and, in my opinion, talented. I started with figurative Portraits. Now I am experimenting with pop art and contrasting colors. I like to work in series: Forever 27, Jazz musicians and singers, Impressionist Painters, Pop Music Stars, French singing and musical artists. I am happy to share these portraits with you and invite you to discover them here.
