Edges Painting

The work grew out of studies of color in oil, particularly the study of blends of blues and greens and earths. In fact, all the backgrounds were done with this technique: no blues or greens were used "pure." Thanks to the use of earths, the greens and blues take on a more natural appearance, closer to the colors of nature and therefore more "welcoming" to the eye looking at them. As for the idea behind the work, the main reference is to the Dutch engraver Maurits Escher, in particular to his infinite worlds, scales, geometric and perspective elements that characterize his works. To the sense, after all, of infinity that characterizes his etchings. The beauty of Escher's works also contains within itself restlessness. "Edges," in fact, also stems from the sense of disquiet given by the repetition of geometric shapes that, smaller and smaller, seem to escape like splinters into an empty earth space that conversely seems to have no dimensions. The calm earths and soothing opaque greens that make up the walls - or ceilings, or floors - of this undefined and indefinable space are contrasted with the force of the beams that with their strong colors traverse the painting, sometimes interpenetrating, disappearing into each other. The intent of my work is to lead the viewer's gaze along a hypothetical world consisting of beams, walls and beams of light that intersect with each other, in a space that is smaller and farther apart, repeating itself endlessly. The viewer is called to get lost among the geometry of the lines, and perhaps to wonder if the space ends where he perceives the "farthest" point of the work, or if it continues into a further space that is no longer visible.
