Elodie et Feline Painting

Jacqueline Engels was inspired by painters around the late 19th and early 20th century, the fin de siecle. It is mainly the flat decorative imagery that has an enormous appeal to her. She likes the abrasive contrast between graceful lines and geometric, decorative patterns, and likes to combine contrasting strict clean lines with the loose touch. Re-appropriated art. For this piece she was inspired by Pierre Bonnard. Her sensitivity in the use of paint and choice of materials, the omission of depth and perspective, and the fresh subtle use of color create a very unique atmosphere. Figurative but with a wink to the abstract.
