"Emergence I & II" Painting

I am a British artist with a background in architecture and design, working primarily in oil/ acrylic on canvas. My practice explores landscape and modernist architecture through abstraction, geometry and colour, drawing on ideas from synthetic cubism and modernism. Much of my work is inspired by walking and travel — places experienced over time rather than from a single viewpoint. Landscapes are assembled as sequences of moments: shifting light, changing terrain, pauses, conversations and movement. Architectural forms are treated in a similar way, reduced and reconfigured to balance structure with warmth and human presence. Colour plays a central role in my process. I use layered, deliberate palettes to create rhythm and depth, allowing form and colour to suggest memory, atmosphere and emotion rather than literal representation. The resulting works sit between abstraction and figuration, inviting viewers to inhabit the space intuitively. Alongside my studio practice, I draw on over 25 years of experience in architecture and design, which continues to inform my approach to composition, scale and spatial clarity.
