Emotional Interior of Biology No. 28 Painting

American Painter working in Oakland, CA. Interested in the intersection between art, science, knowledge and expression. Statement: I grew up in my dad’s lab, fascinated with cell biology. My Saturdays were filled with study of paramecium, amoebas, volvox- shifting slowly in their watery world. A quiet universe came alive in the eyepiece of a microscope. Now, we have google earth and drone imagery, and we explore our planet’s surface; a different unseen universe. ​ In my work, I shift the plane of the canvas to represent these overlooked surfaces, capturing a sense of looking down onto a landscape from above. Equally drawn to the Petri Dish as to Rothko, Monet and Frankenthaler, I re-examine impressionist and expressionist painting through contemporary ways of viewing biological forms. My work is about biology, environment, geography and inter-connection. Research becomes art; art a process of research.
