Original Encaustic Painting Series: "Journey" Painting: "Straight inside of my soul" This abstract painting features a beautiful mixture of my favorite mediums. It is a fusion of encaustic wax, paper, thick acrylic paints and India inks. It was created on a square canvas using the ancient method of encaustic; a blend of beeswax, damar resin and fine pigments. Many layers of wax were used along with India inks and paints. These layers create a unique look that is subtle and offers a depth and transparency to the art. This is one of seven in my encaustic series entitled "Journey" based on my travels in Italy. The painting will arrived ready for you to frame or hang with wire. It is signed on the back and will include a Certificate of Authenticity. Encaustic paintings are extremely durable and archival and can be enjoyed for lifetimes. I will also include a fact sheet on the encaustic process, history and how to care for your painting. About Encaustic Painting: Encaustic is the medium which consists of molten beeswax, resin, and pigments that are fused after application into a continuous layer and fixed to a support (wood) with heat. This achieves a lustrous enamel appearance. The word 'encaustic' comes from the Greek and means to burn in, which refers to the process of fusing the paint. Encaustic paintings can be polished to a high gloss, molded, sculpted, textured and combined with collage materials. Encaustic is also the most durable of artist's paint and an excellent investment. This is due to the fact that beeswax is impervious to moisture. Because of this it will not deteriorate, it will not yellow, and it will not darken. Encaustic paintings do not have to be varnished or protected by glass. If your painting looks dull, or gets dirty it can be wiped clean with a soft cloth dampened with water and buffed to a high shine.
