About The Artwork
'Endless Vine' is a layered painting of trailed black acrylic ink vines and flowers, over a brayer-and-palette-knife background of silvery-tan blocks over a barely seen turquoise background. The bulk of this piece was painted in six hours during a charity art auction and party in Scottsdale, AZ in 2009 - with me reacting to audience requests for things like 'More texture!' and 'Can you make the flowers red?' It's stretched on heavy duty 2.5" wood bars, but I haven't put hanging hardware on the back yet. It's composed to be hung either vertically or horizontally.

I create art under the name Marian Crane (go ahead, I'm immune to the inevitable jokes because I adore Hitchcock movies.) I write and blog under the names Crane Hana, M. Crane Hana, and M. C. Hana (but they're all me, really.) I was born in northwestern New Mexico, and grew up surrounded by the spectacular landscapes, colors, and cultural blends of the American Southwest. My mixed-media paintings, fiber collages, wearable art, jewelry, and book art sculptures are inspired by my love of history, science, folk art, myth, and invention. I am fascinated with the human tendency to mix ornament and function. Since I’m a theatrical prop and artifact geek, too, I love making objects that appear as if they came out of a ‘real’ fantasy or science-fiction culture.
