Size: 22”x22” The phrase is from Zen Buddhism teaching. 日日是好日（にちにちこれこうにち、にちにちこれこうじつ） Brief Meaning: This phrase is from a Zen master, Un-mon-bun-en, in ancient China. It's direct translation is ' Everyday is a wonderful day', but it has much deeper meaning. Whether it’s a rainy day or a stormy day, or it’s a difficult day or a stressful day, bad things will always happen. No matter what happens in your daily life, push through with a strong and positive heart to make the day a good day. This zen phrase is teaching us to live/make every single moment to the best. Using Mat board is recommended. -----meaning detail (from Wiki) 「日日是好日」は、表面上の文字通りには「毎日毎日が素晴らしい」という意味である[1]。 そこから、毎日が良い日となるよう努めるべきだと述べているとする解釈や、さらに進んで、そもそも日々について良し悪しを考え一喜一憂することが誤りであり常に今この時が大切なのだ、あるいは、あるがままを良しとして受け入れるのだ、と述べているなどとする解釈がなされている。』 (from Drama Ji temple site:http://www.daruma.or.jp/zen/detail.html?zen_id=11) この語は中国の唐未から五代にかけて活躍された大禅匠、雲門文偃うんもんぶんえん禅師の言葉です。 たぐい希な、鋭い機峰と、すぐれた禅的力量の持ち主であった禅師は、簡潔な語句を駆使して、自由闊達に禅を説きました。 日々是好日は雲門禅師の悟りの境地を表した、最高の言葉であります。 毎日いい日が続いてけっこうなことだ、などといった浅い意味ではありません。 一般に私達が、今日はよい日だ悪い日だという場合、天気だけでなく、お金が儲かった・損をした、よいことがあった・嫌なことがあったなど、そんなものさしで判断します。 しかし、これは優劣・損得・是非にとらわれた考え方です。 それではたとえ、ある日幸運が訪ずれても、その後に来る不運に脅えなければなりません。 日々是好日とは、そんなこだわり、とらわれをさっぱり捨て切って、その日一日をただありのままに生きる、清々しい境地です。たとえば、嵐の日であろうと、何か大切なものを失った日であろうと、ただひたすら、ありのままに生きれば、全てが好日こうにちなのです。 好日の好は好悪こうおの好ではありません。「嵐か、よし、嵐なにするものぞ！」、「失ってしまったか、よし、どうにかこれを改善しよう！」と、積極的に生きる決意 "よし" がこの "好" なのです。 禅では、過ぎてしまったことにいつまでもこだわったり、まだ来ぬ明日に期待したりしません。 目前の現実が喜びであろうと、悲しみであろうと、ただ今、この一瞬を精一杯に生きる。 http://www.daruma.or.jp/zen/detail.html?zen_id=11 ----- What is 円相 “Enso” It's a one stroke ink brush circle and it's originally came from a Zen culture. 円 --- means “Circle” 相 --- means “Face” It was to see your mind in the one stroke brush paint.
