About The Artwork
A small fish is chased by sharks. These works are more personal. On one level the artist refers to her escape from "men in grey suits" as a symbol of the corporate world. More expansively, the work refers to the destruction of the ocean and its sea life by unscrupulous fishing and toxic pollution. Working with the theme of prey and hunter the artist has drawn from her own experiences in the sea where she has had several close encounters with sharks. But here they speak of the contrast of innocence (the goldfish as well as gold itself which is a prime source of revenue in her country) with those who would devour. The metaphor for the theft of resources by those who are driven by predatory desire filters through the work. We are unable to warn the fish of the inherent danger which circles ever closer.

Whilst maintaining her ironic humor she has painted a number of other series of works, including ‘Wild Life’ ‘Zulu Lulu’ and 'Going to the Dogs series. A recurring theme in her work is a play on words and the use of popular jargon. Her quirky, humorous, yet profoundly insightful art, allows the viewer not only to laugh at themselves but to examine many of the absurd aspects of life.
