Whilst creating this painting I had to move away from everything ‘animal-shaped’. Because I used to always paint animals this was an occupational hazard. The third animals that showed however, fit the piece perfectly: a vulture-like shape. The tension is this painting lead me to its title: ‘Et in Arcadia ego’. A reminder that death is always there, no matter how life is treating you at the moment.

Netherlands
I am a Dutch artist living in Hellevoetsluis (which is a tiny city south of Rotterdam, on the island of Voorne-Putten, in The Netherlands). I live here with 1 husband and 1 cat and enjoy life a lot. When I was an art student at the Willem de Kooning Art Academy (Rotterdam, the Netherlands) I was really taken by the work of Wassily Kadinsky. The tension & release, colour and verve he brought to the table (canvas) still dazzle me today. For the longest time I was afraid to work abstractly - I have always painted and drawn animals, either realistically or cartoonish. Also I have a niche of classic cars, driven by animals. That’s all on www.timhupkes.com Finally I decided to just START. Not only was it way more fun than I even imagined - I love what I do and also how my art turn out. My way of working is very forgiving; if I’m not satified, I can always continue. That being said… I have been known to go one step too far. In the end I’m always happy but sometimes I realise that less can be more! My intent is to bring happiness and awe with my paintings. To make them a part of your home and your heart. My art is a reminder that every day there are things that give light, fun, colour and enjoyment.
