Eternal Flight Painting

This painting was composed in stages: the first layers were playful, graffiti-esque, and primitive: thick layers of acrylic paint, charcoal, and spray paint. The painting sat untouched for weeks while the artist waited for an impulse from within, and when it came, the final layers consisting primarily of oil paint were furiously and passionately added on. There was no plan, the image was born out of a depth of being that goes beyond language or conceptualization: working in a kind of trance, the artist was seeking to transmute a sorrow that had been bubbling up for years and was finally ready to be released: and only once the image was staring at her did she realize that this dark winged angel was the confirmation of her own transmutation of pain into wisdom and beauty.
