ABOUT THE ARTWORK

In this painting I have tried to reflect the idea of the philosopher: Nietzsche; 'ad infintum' in a contemporary painting. In our time, video games have gained popularity. In video games, you can virtually die and try again. And again and again and again. Gods also live forever. As a gamer you play like a God. I made the God as a stereotypical Greek person; a man with a beard and muscular. It sits in the middle surrounded by Greek columns that are not completely finished like some kind of virtual structure that is unfinished so that you can see through the polygons into a lifeless black world. Furthermore, the God is surrounded by lying people who have virtually died and all want to take the place of the God. Above the God I made several beams that overlap each other. These bars symbolize the weapons with which you can be killed in a video game: spears, swords, pistols, etc. The multiple of these also indicate that you will die in eternity in a virtual world.

The passion for painting has been in my family for 2 generations. Some say that painting is my talent. But I don't believe in that. A good painting is building knowledge and a lot of work. I discovered painting when I was 18 - just finished high school and looking for a future. The possibility of taking an art course never occurred to me. Because I had better go to work. At the supermarket, the confectioner, the catering industry and several years in a hotel in the Swiss Alps. In retrospect I am happy with the diversity of the experiences. Now I'm even happier that I went to study art afterwards because art has always been a force of motivation in my life. By taking courses in sculpture, photography, modeling clay, art history after work and by learning to paint when I had time to spare in the evening or weekend. I followed my training as an autonomous artist at the Hogeschool der Kunsten in Utrecht (HKU). I also trained as a visual teacher. Since 2016 I have been working as an art teacher a few days a week. And of course the rest of the time is spent on painting, drawing and sculpting. Im doing that in a traditional sense but also digital. Both influence each other. My great sources of inspiration in terms of artists are old masters from long ago but also well-known artists of today such as: Ian Francis, Jonas Wood, Peter Doig, Jeff Wall, Andreas Gursky, Tjebbe Beekmans and Beeple.
