About The Artwork

The inspiration for this artwork comes from a stone sculpture in a cemetery. The statement "Quem Quaeritis" is the artwork's focal point, and it refers to a Christian ceremony that translates to "Whom do you seek for?". Through this artwork, I aim to encourage people to reflect on what they are searching for in life, their aspirations and goals, and who they seek. To bring this concept to life, I utilized modern stencilling and spraying techniques, which allowed me to create various colour schemes and compositions while staying true to the original idea.

Afshid was born and raised in Iran. He had worked as an art director and graphic designer in high-profile publications in Iran and designed a couple of precious picture books. He is currently settled in Vancouver, Canada. As a graphic designer, he constantly challenges himself to create meaning and concepts in his works, especially his paintings. Bringing graphical style to his paintings and using solid elements in his artworks is one of his work signatures. The works are painted with spray paints on canvas. The technique is graffiti but on canvas. He sees himself as an artist inspired by Warhol’s Factory idea and Banksy’s stencil technique. Afshid always has been a challenging artist, and he looks to every artwork as a problem to be solved. When he started to work, he was in art libraries most of the time and exploring the art world through books. Sometimes the methods he uses are unique and developed by himself. He was the finalist of the Stencil Art Prize in 2017.
