ABOUT THE ARTWORK
“Fallen” is an acrylic on canvas painting measuring 22” high x 28” wide inspired by the crepe myrtle trees that line the easement in front of my house. It named it “Fallen” because it originally began as a standing tree but while painting details, I turned it on its side and decided I liked it better that way. It’s now turned from a tree to resembling a stream or waves.

Cary Reeder, a Miami, Florida native, has made Houston, Texas her home since 1996. She worked for more than a decade as a graphic artist and typesetter in the early 80s and received her fine art training at the Glassell School of Art, Museum of Fine Arts-Houston. Her work has been included in numerous local, regional, and national juried exhibitions, and in solos shows at the Galveston Arts Center (2018), Optical Project (2016) and Lawndale Art Center (2013) in Houston. She was twice featured in New American Paintings, was a Hunting Prize Finalist (2014), and teaches at the Art League Houston.
