Scene exploring tension between 2 male figures. Created as part of large show of my work in Bremen,s Opera Theater Germany. This work addresses the palpable history between two family members who dont often meet. It is an imagined scene at Christmas time where the family dog acts as a border of relief between the two figures. The youth of the young man's face contrasted with the distorted aging head of the older man further heightens the energy of the scene. This work also has a dialogue with Titian's painting . This is one of my favorite psychological paintings. The sense of distrust in the air is soo amazing and moves this painting in the realm of never being still.

In the images Llewellyn works with he combines painting's history and techniques with images from the 1900s to the present day. These images and painting techniques, influenced by Titian to Bacon, are overlapped with each other to create a rich multi-layered experience. This creates a precarious balance between the past and the present leaving the audience with a sense of dislocation from a definite time and place. Man Sleeping in LA Apartment (2011) is a direct conversation with Jusepe de Ribera's Jacob Dream (1639). He is also interested in painting the misfit in society and the private personal moments that painting's light is not normally shone on, for example The Patient (2010) and Father and Son (2011). His work is primarily a dialogue with the history of painting itself and in particular the figure. It does not recognise one period in painting over another. Rather, it is inspired by consistency in quality and the discovery of successful new realities in paint. Llewellyn's work has been exhibited throughout Ireland, England and Germany and is found in both private and public collections throughout the world.
