About The Artwork
Painted from observation with a nude model one evening in Sugarloaf, NY. I used to host a Monday evening model session. I should hope that the view feels open-mind, strong body and beautiful soul. I have many figurative works to post here. This is the first of many!!!! I choose to work in oils because of the fluidity of the medium. I have been working with the figure since my early days of college. I have always considered myself a figurative painter. I paint live weddings and this is my practice and my playtime. To push and pull with paint, to observe and try new things. I still organize these weekly painting sessions in Sugarloaf NY at the former studio of Kurt Seligmann on Tuesday mornings (#warwickdrawinggroup). This is painted on Arches oil paper and then mounted on 1/2" MDF board (Medium Density Fiber Board). I put small screws right in the back and it can go on the wall without a frame.

I am a live event painter. Wedding painting has been my main focus of work for the last 8 years... I organize a weekly figure drawing session in my community, this is my playtime. I am passionately dedicated to painting. I started oil painting when was 12 years old. Painting from life or on location enables me to use all of my senses. I work quickly and intuitively, laying down a damp tone on the canvas and then create compositional indications in paint of the subject. I try to feel the land and how I am connected to it. Time of day, atmosphere, temperature, light, movement, season...all inform my paintings. This allows sensory exploration into a combination of representation and painterly abstraction. At the same time, I use illusion to visually represent what draws us in and brings our insides out. When it feels like a poem, I know it is completed. I serve on the board of directors of my Orange County Arts Council, NY.
