Floating Birch Meadow Painting

Artist Statement My early painting of the late 1980's, was greatly influenced by travels to New York and being exposed to and studying the artistic movements of hard-edged geometric abstraction and colorfield painting. The paintings I subsequently produced in 1990 used geometric abstraction combined with anatomical and biochemical renderings. The thesis and work garnered the Markham Group of Artists Bursary Award for most promising art student in York Region, Ontario. Post University, I moved in 1997 to British Columbia and experienced the majestic forests, immense vegetative growth and intense floral colors which greatly influenced the subject matter of my paintings. Having a young family also drove an aura of whimsical playfulness into the work. My once hard-edged geometric forms developed into playful orb's with movement, floating bubbles and colorful confetti splatters. As an active Canadian, I have experienced vast wilderness, deep forests and naturally inspiring adventures. As a Canadian Artist, I exploit the tonality and aura of the landscape that I experience, making it my own and creating a journey for others. The paintings, through color, movement and expression, create a sense of spirituality void of human presence. The work is about solitude but never about being alone.
