About The Artwork

About me: Drawing a picture on paper. I was interested in the part of the paper, and I thought that if I could create and express myself from paper, I could create a new expression where the charm of paper and the charm of drawing were fused, and I learned paper making while working as a craftsman of Washi for about six years. During these six years, I learned a lot about the knowledge and techniques of Washi making and the possibilities of expression. On the other hand, the demand for paper media is decreasing due to the recent digitalization, and the number of companies and artisans with skills of Washi is decreasing. I felt the fact that Washi, one of Japan's traditional crafts, is in danger of being passed on to the future. Through my work, I would like to explore the possibilities of expression that only Washi possesses and the allure of Washi, and I would like to express those possibilities through my artwork. I hope that the technique and culture of handmade Washi will be known to various people, and I hope that the culture of Washi will be developed in order to be needed in the future. About my work: I created this work from paper, based on the theme of a temporary landscape created by rain. The paper in the middle of making paper is very soft and unstable in shape. When water is dropped on it, a trace of water is left. The method of making up various patterns using the mechanism is called "rakusui" in one of the techniques of Washi. Using this rakusui, I am making water marks of various sizes on paper. I used the water marks to draw water surface scenery that changes with ripples. About the material: The material used in paper is the fiber of kozo, which is the raw material of Japanese paper, and the pulp of a coniferous tree and a deciduous tree. The material used in drawing is ink.
