"It is an audacious notion to put forth in this age of science and willful determination that one's existence is somehow inspired, guided, and even managed by unseen forces outside our control. Whether called fate, destiny, or the hand of God, slender threads are at work bringing coherence and continuity to our lives. Over time they weave a remarkable tapestry...These are the mysterious forces that guide us and shape who we are." Robert Johnson, depth psychologist

Some years ago, I received a cancer diagnosis. On the other side of the fear and shock, I noticed that there was a part of me that was deeply at peace. Instead of being afraid, this part was curious. It was interested. And it was absolutely not afraid. I called it Awareness. I started paying attention and noticed that when I was in this state of Awareness that everything was all alright. Nothing had to change or turn out a certain way. Each moment was just right, just the way it was. I have tried to capture the feeling tone of that state of Awareness in my artwork ever since. It’s been challenging, but there has never been any doubt in my mind that this is the only thing that I am interested in painting. If I inspire in the viewer a hint or an echo of their own remembering, in even the slightest degree, I have done my job.
