About The Artwork

The Art work is continuation of the series “Root Bridges“ which was exhibited in Jun 2019 at Čin Čin Gallery in Bratislava, Slovakia. http://www.janabednarova.net/root-bridges-in-cin-cin The art work is focusing on my personnel connections between Slovakia and North East India represented via landscape paintings and depicting the specific natural architecture of root bridges which still exists in the state of Meghalaya and use to be the only way to connect two places divided by the wild river. To create such a natural architectural form it took around 20 years for tribal people to direct the roots of Ficus elastica to the other side and shape the path with railing. This interesting natural architecture is reminding people till now the possibility of joining divided places in harmony and with the help of wild nature.

I am from Slovakia and in my work I find inspiration in the environment and culture of the place where I am working. Because of my interest to learn more about different cultures I studied one year in Basque country in northern Spain and I went for my master degree to study to India. My current works are focusing on visual memory and I am searching the fundamental forms in the wild nature. My first expeditions to the deep jungles in North East India were very exciting because I experienced first hand the feelings of the people who live in harmony with nature. Painting directly in the plain air in the rain forests is for me a reflection of organic biodiversity of nature and its ability to survive and grow in very difficult terrain. Humans have been inspired by nature for centuries, and I believe that till now we have subconscious connection to the natural forms and we are able to read the metaphors for the survival in or surrounding landscape.
