The third in an on-going series of works exploring the styles/conventions of image-making from different cultures/times. The Geisha, painted in a modern realist style, stands in front of the snowy landscape in the classic woodcut style of Hiroshige, Hokusai and Utamaro. Despite each part being painted in a distinct pictorial style, we can still read the composition as a traditional landscape with foreground and background. The term EFS (Ethnological Forgery Series) references the German rock group CAN, who in the 1970s produced their own musical variations on different cultural styles.
