About The Artwork

It’s a poetic paradox. The painting is based on my previously made collage, “Japanese peace”. The collage can be “read” like an oriental quatrain, for example: Geisha wearing pearls strapped-up dove falls meat slices, an orange, two lush paint brushes– black and white. In the center of the collage, on the geisha’s neck – a long necklace of artificial (maybe real) pearls – an attribute of erotic games. The scene reminds one of Japanese militarism – the occupation of China, and, after World War II, the capitulation of Japan. Sudden strokes and sliced meat – Hiroshima, samurai and kamikaze pride and sacrifice. And yet – a white dove, white Japanese ceramics.
