About The Artwork
Spanish Baroque and American gangster rap both make stories of glory and brutality tangible. Its connections like these that I used to create an aesthetic for the musicians I was working with In savannah. Caravaggio is one of the artists that I connected with in academia that made the path to bringing hip hop sensibilities to a fine art medium more apparent. This piece is an homage to Caravaggio's "the taking of christ". My goal is to make art that you would be equally as likely to see on a corner store mural in the hood as you would be to find hanging on the wall of an art museum.
