Girl Power Painting

As the day drew to a close, she was seething with anger. Storming out of the building, with her jacket in her arm, she discarded her beer-soaked shirt. Acknowledging her perky breasts, she instantly felt better and put on her jacket. Strutting along, enjoying the stares and eye rolls from onlookers. Almost as if she wanted someone to say something to feel justified in letting loose with her sharp tongue. A quick stop to bum a cigarette from someone and she was off to Post Alley to process her emotions, collect her thoughts, and transmute the night's energy into affirmations of abundance. Taking deep breaths of the cool night air, she focused on releasing the negative energy that had been weighing her down. Finding a quiet spot, she sat down and lit her cig. She closed her eyes and concentrated on her breathing. Inhale. Exhale. Inhale. Exhale. Repeating positive affirmations to herself with each repetition, she felt more empowered and grounded. the smoke from her cigarette swirled around her, she began to feel a sense of calm wash over her. She started to repeat positive affirmations to herself, reminding herself of her worth and the power she held within. With each affirmation she repeated, she felt more and more empowered. After a few minutes, she stubbed out her cigarette while noticing the colors from the neon light that covered her. Then catching her reflection in the glass, burnt this moment in her mind appreciating the beauty of now, and stood up. She was ready to face the rest of her night with a clear mind and a renewed sense of purpose. As she walked away from the alley, she felt lighter and more grounded than she had in a long time. She knew that, whatever life had in store for her, she had the grace and strength to handle it and was brave enough to be her most authentic self. I sketched this out after coming home from the night described above. Painted the base with acrylics and finished with gouache.
