Dana Blickensderfer's new body of paintings Flush invites the viewer to discover and examine ideas of sensuality. “She reflects on the subject of sensuality and womanhood through a narrative approach of expression and contemplation, she is therefore revealing herself.” Blickensderfer draws her inspiration from her personal biography relating to her culture and inner dialogue. Her most recent series of mixed media works are constructed images expressing womanhood and sensuality. She intertwines images of adolescence and her current feminine self. The narrative selects only a limited color palette, using light and dark tones, shifting between figuration and gestural abstraction. There is a dialogue presented between the adolescent subconscious and the woman. Blickensderfer becomes the bridge between the past and the present, the private and the public, the personal and the universal. It is through the search of her personal acceptance and selflove that she transcends past youthful whims into her present place. The narrative is reflective and re-examined and it is through select colors and textures that she is exploring the past, the present, the feminine, the sensual, and the flush.
