About The Artwork
Girl with a Canary was inspired by a lovely model with flowers in her hair. Although she was not sitting at the 'pub table' as shown, I felt that I had seen someone much like her in the past. Her very frank expression, though not unfriendly, makes you want to listen to what she has to say. The canary is a part that I have invented to give the viewer an idea of what she has on her mind... The painting is acrylic painted on canvas which has been attached to a treated birch panel 1.5" deep. The edges of the panel are stained a lovely walnut brown and the painting is framed in a simple matte black "floater" frame to set off the painting while allowing the viewer to see the actual depth of the work and it's rich wooden edges.
