Glacial Impacts No. 12 Painting

As an abstract landscape painter, I am continually exploring more immersive ways of engaging with nature and the landscape with an interesting perspective. I typically work on one series at a time, with multiple paintings simultaneously. I try to approach the clean substrate (whether it is canvas or paper) with subject matter intent but initially without preconceptions of the final work and therefore, open to all possibilities. This approach to this series uses frozen pigments as a means to initially explore glaciers and their impacts on landscapes. Glaciers are large bodies of dense ice and during the melting process will slowly change entire landscapes by moving vast quantities of rock and sediment thereby sculpting mountains and carving out valleys. This process also removes the use of paint brushes eliminating forced, stylized or repetitive paint strokes, thus allowing the pigment properties to flow naturally.
