"GOD IS GAY" is a deeply personal artwork reflecting my journey of self-discovery amidst the challenges of the church's stance on LGBTQ+ identities. As a pansexual individual, I grappled with societal pressures, especially within a church that often condemned being gay. At the heart of this artwork lies the potent imagery of Jesus locked in an intimate embrace with the devil. It symbolizes the inner turmoil I experienced, torn between my true self and the church's teachings. This embrace signifies the struggle, both internal and external, that many LGBTQ+ individuals face when their authentic identity clashes with religious norms. It's a visual metaphor for my personal journey's complexity. For a long time, I concealed my true self, fearing the consequences of coming out. The church's disapproval and societal stigma around homosexuality made it exceptionally challenging to be honest with myself and others. It was only when I found a loving, supportive relationship that I felt safe enough to come out and fully embrace my pansexuality. The pain of not being able to be authentic earlier, due to church-induced fear, is a poignant part of this artwork's narrative. It serves as a reminder of the harm caused by societal prejudices and the courage it takes to break free from these constraints. "GOD IS GAY" visually encapsulates my personal struggles and stands as a declaration of my identity. I've now accepted myself fully, even though it's unlikely the church will fully embrace people like us. I've realized that my worth and identity aren't contingent on their approval. My message to others in similar situations is clear: You're not alone, and self-acceptance is a courageous act. We all deserve love, respect, and happiness, regardless of external judgments.
