ABOUT THE ARTWORK

I am usually inspired by photographs. Sometimes I like to sketch the faces of people I meet during my travels and holidays, which I then transfer to the painting. I hope that the viewers of my artwork are captivated by the colours, my personal style (sometimes minimalist) and that they can see my sensibility through the expression of the subject I have painted. I love acrylics because they dry quickly and give a modern touch to the paintings. Acrylic painting can be exposed to direct light. I like doing portraits because the human being is always an interesting subject to explore. I like to paint black people, especially women, because of their beauty, their intense gaze and because the African continent is fantastic.

I am a self-taught painter and have been painting for a long time. I started when I was fourteen years old with oil paints and copying famous paintings from the past because I had an encyclopedia of the world's art museums. I still keep one of the first ones: the Venus of Velázquez. Then I continued over the years by switching to water colors. I love painting very much. I like to depict human figures not only for the beauty of a face, but for the expression I catch in a person, for eyes that tell without speaking, for an enlightening smile that gives cheerfulness and hope, for two extra wrinkles that make a difference in the story marked on a person's face. Especially in African faces I like the black eyes and the different shades of their skin or the bright colors of their clothes. As a painting technique I use acrylic colors and my brush strokes can be either textural or smooth. Each painting is a unique piece. I never repeat the same subject, nor do I make prints. For the past few years I have been participating in contemporary art fairs in France and Italy.
