About The Artwork
Another of the pieces inspired by chance bits of my world, this time a failed print of an earlier work - 'Dream of the Endless'. The printer had stopped halfway through the operation, with just the hair of the character and some of the dreamlike creatures visible. Looking at it turned sideways I saw the hair as strands of thick grass, with more odd creatures rising up to the sky above it. I needed some more bulk in the grass at the bottom so added an element from another earlier painting, 'The Jellyfish Touring Company', featuring a moonboat being towed through the sky by a jellyfish. Besides that and quite unintentionally, it's another take on the theme of transcendence, rising above the noise of the daily world into a clearer, lighter space.

Art has been in my family for 3 generations, and in fact I still use the easel I inherited from my grandfather. As a child of around 5 my father bought my sister and I sketch pads and set up little still life arrangements for us to draw, so art is pretty much coded in. As an adult I was in the right time and place when CGI first came to SA in its most primitive early form (does anyone out there actually remember a 286 computer?!) and I rode that wave as it broke over the local broadcast and video scene, notching up some notable firsts and winning a pile of now forgotten awards. Eventually the forces of my life conspired to steer me to art proper, which is where you find me, now in my 11th year as a painter of pictures.
