The goldcrest (Regulus regulus) is a very small passerine bird in the kinglet family. Its colourful golden crest feathers, as well as being called the "king of the birds" in European folklore, gives rise to its English and scientific names. The scientific name, R. regulus, means king or knight. The message is peaceful, and the creation of the painting is a mindful exercise in itself. Laure covers the canvas is 7 layers of paint, gently sanding each layer to create a beautiful smooth surface before painting each bird with oil paints and fine brushes.
