Golden Hour on Arikok Park Aruba Painting

Hiking the Arikok National Forest in Aruba provides the tones that I like in this piece. The composition is painted against a yellow orange background which is the the prominent color of the rocks I see. The horizon line gives the structure of the distant sky meeting the surface of the earth. I am drawn to the movement I feel in nature with the stroke of the wheel against the skated surface. My version of stripes in art history come from a long line of painters I admire, but it is mostly Joan Mitchell who took nature an reimagined it in all her paintings. Joan Mitchell, an American, was also a competitive figure skater. I love how we have skating in common. This piece is stretched with a wire hanger ready to hang on a wooden 1.5 in stretcher.
