ABOUT THE ARTWORK

The work was performed on the evening of TOWER OF SONG's radio broadcast: TRIBUTE TO LEONARD COHEN, a concert by Adam Cohen to mark the first anniversary of his father's death, where his greatest songs followed one another, performed by famous artists. From the beginning of the show, an irresistible impulse pushed me to release my colors and my spatulas to paint without constraint, without preconceived idea, in a totally spontaneous way under the inspiration of this music. This resulted in an abstract work to which I added Cohen's silhouette recalling the photo from the album Songs from the Road. The work evokes the departure of the poet towards the beyond. Its evanescent silhouette leaves a luminous trace in the maelstrom of colors of the complex universe of humanity. Cohen thus becomes the "light in the breach of everything," as he famously put it in his famous phrase: "There is a crack in everything, that's how the light gets in." ". In an interview with Le Point in 1985, Leonard Cohen confided: "We always have the impression that we have nothing to say. We take the guitar and we have nothing to sing, but thanks to God or something, it starts, it happens and we start again. ". That's what fascinates me in creation. This strange process at the origin of all things, which builds this world from which the consciousness emerges. When I draw or paint, I have the deep feeling of being carried away by this process. I get drunk and this momentum emerges an intuitive and free movement. Website:

My monochrome drawings are influenced by sumi-e, this Japanese art characterized by the sobriety of the composition. The beginning of a sumi-e work is done without prior sketch and without precise intention of the composition, the spontaneity of the initial gesture continues throughout the creation, letting my unconscious express itself in a new and intimate interpretation of the subjects . The vacuity (blank background of the support) and the form balance to give life to the entire surface. The result is refined works evoking the wide open spaces accessible by the mind once freed from daily concerns. The interest of this approach became apparent to me after reading the book by Alan W. Watts entitled Zen Buddhism. It is about the Tao “which generates the world without creating it, that is to say by making it become”. I see there this powerful impulse which leads living things to develop and which arouses the creative impulse in the artist. I perceive all the creative potential of the Vacuity, this emptiness which allows the appearance of form and which, through the unoccupied space, opens up to the interpretation of the work. My creative freedom is also expressed through color paintings where landscapes emerge, sometimes known, sometimes imaginary. An emotional impact is created by the liveliness of my colors and the harmony of their arrangement. A light emerges from the work. Original textures appear thanks to a measured mixture of water and acrylic. My intention is to recreate the emotion that I feel in front of a particular landscape or context, without limiting myself to the constraints of figurative realism. My works are made with acrylic on canvas, in color or monochrome, and ink on paper.
