My grandmother. I painted many pictures of Grace over the years... this and one other are my favorites. I tried a different way of looking at the person sitting for me, to get an insight into what made them tick, what their concerns were, and where they were going....Which required a different way of painting.

Born and bred in Boston, Massachusetts (USA) Earliest influences were John Marin, early Dutch Master still life painting, Nancy and Sluggo comics, Batman and Superman comics, then on to TinTin comics Japanese prins (Yoshitoshi, Utamaro, Hiroshige, and Hokusai) Later influences were Richard Yarde, Morton Sachs and Paul Georges Oil is my favorite medium...it can be big, messy and earthy....I also like gouache, which is more intimate and delicate, and ink drawing which is as intimate as gouache but more controlled...at least the way I use these mediums
