Grave Goods Painting

I have had an avid interest in world history and archaeology for many years, and I have visited a great many of the most celebrated ancient sites on 6 continents. Archaeologists are excited when they excavate burials, which range from variously preserved skeletal remains to the mummy and treasures of Tutankhamun's tomb. Things that were placed in a burial along with the deceased are called "grave goods". In this painting I abstract the "sic transit" nature of a human life. If your gold is interred with you, the gold goes nowhere with you; it simply awaits retrieval by looters...or archaeologists.
