About The Artwork

40x40cm abstract impressionist painting. I live close to both Sissinghurst Castle Garden and Great Dixter in East Sussex. Both these gardens are open to the epublic, and both rather well know. I enjoy the chaos, seasonality and impermanence of the Great Dixter planting, it's wild, beautiful and looks very spontaneous. Visiting there is an inspiring event for me. I use beautiful quality acrylic paints, mostly Golden acrylic, and Lascaux, and a large variety of brushes and palette knives, to drip, wash, smudge and paint the surface of the canvas, to create a rich and varied painting. This 40x40cm landscape painting is acrylic on canvas. It’s unframed. It has white painted edges, and is strung with picture cord.

I work with landscapes, from which I draw my inspiration. The play of light and shadow, and the in-the-moment experience of absorbing the world around me inform my work. I am also drawn by my memories of a childhood spent outside, the visual impact and pleasure of that still resonates with me. I love colour and texture and in my work am always attempting to use these elements to create a harmonious balance. I enjoy working in an experimental way with different materials, I frequently throw paint at my canvas, and work with the canvas on the floor, dripping paint onto it. The spontaneity that gives me very valuable.
