About The Artwork
Experimenting with Pour and Tilt brushless painting on the grassy lawn of the courtyard of my company on hot summer days during my lunch hour, I was excited to find the mixing of different colors and viscosities on the canvas by tilting the poured paints strongly resembled the diverse landscapes of mountains, rivers, forests, fields, lakes, islands, and seas as seen from orbit in Landsat images. This reinforced my earlier experience as a USAF recon navigator, flying all over NATO Europe and North Africa at diverse altitudes. For my choice of forms and colors, I observed a Thoreau maxim of "observe nature.” Green Isles from Space was inspired by these many NASA high resolution photographs of the earths surfaces, areas which were of high scientific or economic and defense interest. The paintings are experiments and the crucial moment is knowing when to stop.

Clark Abt was fond of drawing cathedrals and unusual buildings at an early age. He would paint his own Christmas cards with wintery snow-scenes to send to friends and family. Clark Abt is particularly fond of birches, pine trees, and he has planted over 1000 trees and several small birch groves. Clark Abt also studies historical biographies, physical and biological sciences, and international politics and economics. His work includes a use of mixed media and several original techniques rooted in abstract expressionism.
