Samuel Prophask Asamoah is a Ghanaian contemporary artist whose practice is rooted in versatility and material exploration. He works across painting, sculpture, and installation. His artistic journey began at an early age through observational drawing inspired by the natural environment. He is currently a PhD student at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in Kumasi, Ghana, where he also earned his MPhil and Bachelor of Arts degrees. Asamoah’s practice is distinguished by a dynamic engagement with diverse media and forms, navigating abstraction, realism, and surrealism. His practice engages themes of ecological sustainability and articulates dialogue between waste and aesthetic value through the transformation of discarded materials. Working at the intersection of art and environmental consciousness, he recontextualizes waste into compelling visual narratives that interrogate consumption, material afterlives, and cultural memory. Bridging temporal and cultural contexts and belief in the interconnectedness of all Earth’s diversity, Asamoah employs layered iconography to construct compositions that speak to harmonious coexistence, inclusivity, and shared human experience. This synthesis positions his work within a transcultural and transnational framework. His works not only challenge conventional perceptions of value and waste but also propose alternative aesthetic and ecological possibilities. He maintains that art should document both the tangible and intangible dimensions of culture and emphasizes the importance of audience engagement, inviting viewers into immersive, participatory experiences. His works have been exhibited both in Ghana and internationally, resonating with diverse audiences and collectors.
