About The Artwork

Like I said about my "Aphrodite and Eros" painting, this piece was also based on Greek Mythology. My most favorite mythology story is "The Story of the Seasons" where Persephone is taken to the underworld by Hades to be his queen. This scene depicts the moment of when Persephone has just been kidnapped and she is in despair and wanting to go home. Hades carasses his had against her face as an attempt to calm her down and let her know that everything will be alright. I want my viewers to feel the connection and empathy that Hades has for Persephone because he really does care for her and wants her to be his bride. While Persephone does develop feelings for Hades, she longs to be reunited with her mother, Demeter, the goddess of the harvest. Before Persephone is allowed to leave however, Hades has her eat a Pomegranate seed which grants her promise of returning to the underworld for half of the year.
