Heartbeat Painting

The artist began the painting by covering the canvas in a deep red wash. She then mixed a bright red and sparingly applied it, allowing for the underpainting to come through. The undulating lines were then painted in gold and filled with a watery mixture of various acrylic colors. The artist associates the color red with passion and emotional connection. The undulating forms represent the beating of the heart, some bigger, some smaller, each containing the weight of feeling and memory. The sides of “Heartbeat” have been painted in red so it has a polished feel. It is stretched on a frame and is easy to hang.
