ABOUT THE ARTWORK

The black woman is a series of women with different Identities, beauty, strength, and reflections. Each woman in this black womanhood represents a unique facet of a black woman’s journey in the male-dominated world. As an artist, my work is deeply rooted in the lives of the Black women who shaped me, from the woman who birthed me to my old grannies, aunts, sisters, and girlfriend, Each of them played a genuine role in my growth as I watched them grow and transit from each role life dished for them, as I reflected on their struggles with societal expectations, racism, and sexism I only see strength and resiliency. The vibrant colors and hairdo of this woman evoke the rich complexity and diversity likewise their pose and poise. In this series, I preach the story of survival, triumph, and the reclamation of identity, reclaiming the she-gender's place in a world that often marginalizes her. I made this to be a tribute to Black women I know and I have met before, your spirit, is an invitation for others to recognize and honor.
