About The Artwork

Inspired by Dutch Renaissance hunting scenes, my palette drifts in and out of theatrical productions. Staged like a scene from a great tragedy, vigorous brushstrokes capture the pain, fear, and adrenaline of the hunt. The wild boar is perhaps the most classical of animals depicted in art and design. Ancient Greek mythology used the boar as the go-to prey for hunters and heroes. Fear of these wild animals resulted in legends arising to explain nature and punishments inflicted on the human race by the gods. Rediscovered in the florentine renaissance, the boar was once again catapulted into the symbolic fight men have with conquering masculinity. In my work, the wild boar is depicted in a shadow of fear and panic, a contracting rage seen throughout art history.
