About The Artwork

Like millions of others, I've always had an affinity for Catcher in the Rye. That being said, it's the main character Holden Caufield and his way of speaking that has stuck with me for so long. I wanted to create a tribute piece to him, so I purchased multiple copies of the same paperback edition ( so not to lose quotes from each side of the page) abd proceeded to pull my favorites and incorporate them into this painting. This piece actually showed in NYC at a gallery on Orchard street in December of 2021. It was a terrific experience.

I have been painting for more the 30 years and have been a self-employed, Full-time Artist for 16 years. I am an intuitive painter and believe that Mark making is one of the purest forms of truth. When this sort of truth is combined with palette and complex composition, it has the unique ability to become an investigation of the human condition and our individual roles within the surrounding world. Life is often complicated and my paintings dissect and often reflect these chaotic episodes. Solving the problem of these intentional complexities is where my compositions come to fruition. On specific occasions I incorporate a use of collage to represent and explore the affect mainstream media has on our daily choices. The power of what we see and how it alters our ability to find what we consider “happiness” is something I find challenging and worth exploration. From the mediocre and mundane to the exhilarating and brilliant, we are shaped and created by the good, the bad, the happy and the sad, each moment a point in a repeated cycle of discovery. Regardless of our desires and often in direct defiance of our “plans” the revolutions of time and the changes that come with it lead us to the revelations that alter our paths
